CBD Treats For Dogs
These pre-dosed peanut butter dog treats are great for puppies and elderly dogs alike. Made with organic peanut butter, pumpkin puree, and farm-fresh CBD, once your dog has Sunset Lake’s CBD Dog Treats, they won’t want anything else.
How We Make CBD Treats For Dogs
Sunset Lake CBD’s dog treats start with only the finest CBD extract suspended in MCT oil (a flavorless carrier oil made from coconuts.) We then mix the wet ingredients: Pumpkin puree and organic peanut butter.
We create dough by folding our wet and dry ingredients: Oat flour, salt, and vitamin E. Once we have our dough, we send it through a cutting machine to ensure dosing consistency. We regularly weigh treats so you can be confident when you give one to your pup.
When we’ve weighed and visually inspected the peanut butter biscuits, we run them through a dehydrator to remove excess moisture and keep the treat shelf stable.

Why We Make CBD Treats For Dogs
There’s a need behind every Sunset Lake product. We started making these dog treats in 2020 after Farm Manager and Co-Founder Alex Frei found some simple homemade treat recipes online and wanted to make something for his family member’s dog. After a few months of testing and tasting (thank you to our Director of Sales, Cy, for always doing the honors,) we landed on this recipe. They’re made with all-natural ingredients, effective, and gosh darn, dogs love them.
Using CBD Treats For Dogs
When you give your dog CBD for any reason, you’ll want to adjust their dosage according to their weight. The rule of thumb across the hemp industry and many pet health experts is 1 – 2mg of CBD for every 10 pounds of body weight.
For example, if your dog weighs:
- 15 – 30 pounds, give them 1 treat at a time
- 30 – 50 pounds, give them 1.5 treats at a time
- 50 – 70 pounds, give them 2 treats at a time
- 70 – 90 pounds, give them 2.5 treats at a time
- 90+ pounds, give them 3+ treats at a time
Once your dog acclimates to this initial dose, you can experiment with their dosage and dosing schedule. You know your dog best, and if you plan on using CBD to treat a specific symptom, please do so as you see fit.
When to use CBD Dog Treats
We’ve heard from Sunset Lake CBD customers that these treats can help with the following:
Frequency and severity of seizures
If you’re using CBD to manage your dog’s seizures better, you’ll want to maintain a daily dosing schedule. Think of their treats as a daily vitamin. You want to maintain a consistent level in your dog’s system for maximum effectiveness.
Painful or stiff joints
If your elderly dog has joint pain, you can give them CBD treats continually throughout the day as needed.
Or, if you know your dog is about to be physically active, you can give them a treat 30 minutes beforehand to help them manage inflamed joints. CBD can help support your dog’s active lifestyle.
Calm and relaxation
If your dog experiences separation anxiety or has a nervous personality, try giving them a CBD treat to help calm them down. If you know you’ll need to leave the house, give your dog their weight-appropriate dose an hour before to let your dog acclimate.
Or, if you know guests are coming over to the house, a little CBD can help take the edge off and ease your pup into social situations.
If you have a hyper dog, please be aware that CBD may not be able to help your dog control their excitement. CBD is better at helping your pet overcome social anxiety. If your dog is already social and overly stimulated, these treats aren’t likely to help.

Managing stressful noises
Sunset Lake’s peanut butter snacks are perfect calming CBD treats for dogs. Just give your dog their dosage an hour before the fireworks show or before you vacuum the house. They won’t make your dog indifferent to the noise, but they make it so that your dog can handle the stress much more effectively.
End-of-life care
You can also use these CBD treats for dogs to comfort your furry friend during their end-of-life care. You may also consider supplementing these treats with Sunset Lake’s 600mg Full Spectrum Pet CBD Oil for dogs. Using both will be a more cost-effective and tooth-friendly option for elderly dogs who need a higher dose.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are CBD Dog Treats Good For Dogs?
CBD Dog Treats aren’t good or bad for dogs. Rather, CBD is a supplement that you can use to help your dog manage issues like:
- Arthritic pain
- Separation anxiety
- Joint mobility
- Sleep quality
- Nervous licking/itching
- And more…
If your dog doesn’t suffer from these issues, giving them CBD treats won’t hurt them; it will likely make them sleep more than usual.
Are Hemp Treats the Same as CBD Treats?
Be wary of treats infused with hemp that you can find on large e-commerce platforms like Amazon. Hemp Pet Treats likely don’t contain any CBD and are instead made with hemp oil, which is just a cooking oil on par with virgin cooking oil.
Hemp pet treats will not provide your dog with a therapeutic CBD dose.
Do Vets Recommend CBD Treats for Dogs?
Veterinarians do recommend CBD for dogs generally. They are much more likely to prescribe CBD oil for dogs, though, because you can customize your pet’s dosage. (Plus, vets are hard-pressed to prescribe *more* treats to your pup)
Will CBD Treats Make My Dog Hungry?
Because CBD interacts with your dog’s endocannabinoid system, a biological system that affects appetite, it’s possible that CBD will make your dog hungry.
How Fast Will They Calm My Dog Down?
When eaten, CBD must first make its way to your dog’s stomach before it can reach the bloodstream. This can take anywhere between 30 – 90 minutes, depending on your dog’s size and if they’ve just eaten.
Will They Make My Dog Sleepy?
Giving your dog CBD treats may make them sleepy. And that’s okay. Sleep is an important part of your dog’s life. They generally need 12-14 hours per day. Plus, when your dog sleeps, they’re calm and less stressed out.
Can I Give My Dog A CBD Treat Every Day?
You can give your dog a CBD treat every day. CBD stays in your dog’s system for about 24 hours before it breaks down and exits, meaning that there won’t be any buildup if you decide to give these CBD treats to your dog daily.
