CBD Treats For Dogs

Are you interested in giving your dog CBD, but worried about getting the dosage right? Sunset Lake CBD’s full-spectrum CBD Treats For Dogs may be perfect for you!

We craft these treats with just a few simple ingredients and CBD extract from hemp that we grew ourselves. They’re so good that even our Director of Sales, Cy, helps himself to a few when they’re fresh.

What Are CBD Treats For Dogs?

CBD Treats For Dogs are simply dry dog snacks that have been infused with CBD extract in some way. At Sunset Lake CBD, we use CBD-infused MCT Oil (made from coconuts) and blend it with our simple mix of Oat Flour, Pumpkin Puree, Peanut Butter, Salt, and Vitamin E (for a healthy coat).

It’s a simple mix that both dogs and dog owners can appreciate.

How We Make CBD Treats For Dogs

We make our CBD Treats For Dogs meticulously because we know how important consistent dosing is for your four-legged fur baby. We start out by making dough which we then run through a cutting machine to ensure consistent sizing.

Once we have our raw snacks we put them in a dehydrator to ensure proper moisture levels and so that we don’t damage any of the CBD in the treat with a hot oven. You can see the ingredient list below.

Ingredient List

Oat Flour, Peanut Butter (Dry Roasted Peanuts), Pumpkin Purée, MCT Oil (Derived From Coconuts), Full-Spectrum CBD Oil, Salt, Vitamin E

Contains peanuts and coconuts. Vegan.

How Many Should I Give My Dog?

The initial rule of thumb is 1mg – 2mg of CBD for every 10 pounds of weight your dog carries. It’s okay to give them higher doses than that. The easiest way to figure out dosing is by taking your dog’s everyday weight, dividing it by 10, and determining their dosage. For example, if your dog weighs:

  • 15 – 30 pounds, give them 1 treat at a time
  • 30 – 50 pounds, give them 1.5 treats at a time
  • 50 – 70 pounds, give them 2 treats at a time
  • 70 – 90 pounds, give them 2.5 treats at a time
  • 90+ pounds, give them 3+ treats at a time

When to use CBD Dog Treats

When you give your dog their CBD Treats really depends on what you’re trying to address.

Seizures and frequency

To better manage your dog’s seizures and their frequency, maintain a daily dosing schedule. Think of their treats as their daily vitamin. CBD stays in their system for quite some time and has been known to help manage seizures in humans.

Stiffness or pain:

If your older dog has joint pain you can give your dog CBD Treats continually throughout the day as needed (about every 4 – 6 hours.) Or, if you know that your dog is about to be physically active, you can give them a treat 30 minutes beforehand to reduce inflammation. We don’t recommend exceeding more than four doses per day.

Anxiety:

If your dog can’t stand the thought of being away from you, try giving them a CBD Dog treat(s) an hour before you leave the house so that they may acclimate to the CBD while you’re still at home.

Stress:

If you know that you have a stressful event like a thunderstorm or fireworks coming up, give your dog CBD Dog Treat(s) an hour beforehand to help keep them calm.

End-of-life care:

If you’re going to be using CBD Treats to keep your dog comfortable during their end-of-life care, consider also supplementing with the 600mg Full Spectrum Pet CBD Oil or check out our CBD Pet Bundle for larger breeds. CBD Oil is going to be a more cost-effective and tooth-friendly option for older dogs who need higher dosages. Consult with your veterinarian about a dosing schedule.

What Are The Side Effects?

Giving CBD Treats to your dog may also present some minor side effects that are worth noting.

  • Dry mouth – CBD and cannabinoid-infused treats can give your dog a dry mouth. If you see them headed for the water dish more often after giving them their treat, don’t be alarmed.
  • Low blood pressure – Larger doses of CBD have been observed temporarily dropping blood pressure by dilating veins. Lowering your dog’s blood pressure can make them more dizzy.
  • Drowsiness – just as in us humans, using CBD can make your dog tired. If you begin to give your dog CBD treats, don’t be surprised if they decide they need more daytime naps.

CBD Treats For Dogs: Frequently Asked Questions

Are They Good For Dogs?

CBD isn’t good or bad for dogs. Rather, CBD is a supplement that can be used to help your dog with a number of issues like,

  • Arthritic pain
  • Separation anxiety
  • Joint mobility
  • Sleep quality
  • Nervous licking/itching
  • And more…

Will They Make My Dog Hungry?

The endocannabinoid system does play a role in our digestive system and appetite, so it’s reasonable to say that it does in our canine friends too! CBD and other cannabinoids can help bring our endocannabinoid system back into balance, meaning that CBD may be able to support a healthy appetite in your dog.

How Fast Will They Calm My Dog Down?

When eaten, CBD must first make its way to your dog’s stomach before it can reach the bloodstream. This can take anywhere between 30 – 90 minutes depending on your dog’s size and if they’ve just eaten. If you’re looking for faster relief, consider Sunset Lake CBD’s 600mg Full Spectrum Pet CBD Oil. When dispensed directly in your dog’s mouth, this oil will make its way into your dog’s bloodstream via the gums and begin to work faster.

Will They Make My Dog Sleepy?

There’s a good chance that giving your dog CBD treats will make them sleepy. And that’s okay! Sleep is an important part of every animal’s life and dogs generally need about 12-14 hours of sleep per day. Plus, when your dog sleeps, it means that they’re calm and less stressed. Both good things!

Can I Give My Dog A Treat Every Day?

You can give your dog a CBD treat every day. CBD stays in your dog’s system for about 24 hours before it breaks down and exits meaning that they’re won’t be any buildup if you decide to give these CBD treats to your dog daily.

Are These Full Spectrum?

Yes. Sunset Lake CBD’s Dog Treats are full spectrum.

When we cultivate our hemp, there are over 100 cannabinoids present in the flowers. Each one plays its own part in interacting with the endocannabinoid system present in humans, dogs, and all mammals. For this reason, we don’t remove any of the cannabinoids from the extract that we use to make these dog treats.

My dog loves these treats. He’s starting to age a bit, and struggles with swelling in his hips. I began giving him the CBD treats in the hope that they would give him some relief, and they really do seem to be keeping him more active. He’s even hiking his leg higher when we go potty!

My pups howl for these treats. Caution: treats may cause begging!

Excellent product. I started using the pet tincture on my wolf dog when he was having medical issues and struggling to eat at the age of 12. Now, he is 15 years old, eating well, and still going on walks around the lake. Thanks, to The Majority Report for introducing me to Sunset Lake, and to Sunset Lake for giving me a few extra happy, healthy years with my boy.
