Using Your CBD Dog Treats
We’ve crafted these CBD Dog Treats to make sharing the benefits of CBD with your pups easy. Each dog treat is pre-dosed and contains 5mg of CBD. With hints of pumpkin, peanut butter, and salt, your dog will love these treats.
We recommend giving your dog a number of treats proportionate to their weight. For example, if your dog weighs:
- 30 pounds and below, give them 1 treat at a time
- 30 – 50 pounds, give them 1.5 treats at a time
- 50 – 70 pounds, give them 2 treats at a time
- 70 – 90 pounds, give them 2.5 treats at a time
- 90+ pounds, give them 3 treats at a time
Note: If you own an extra large or giant dog (90+ pounds), please see Sunset Lake’s CBD Pet Bundle. The Pet Bundle contains these treats and the 600mg Full Spectrum Pet CBD Oil. Using both at the same time will allow you to give your pet an appropriate CBD dose at a more affordable price.
Stick with the recommended dose for at least two weeks before adjusting your dog’s CBD dosage. If you have questions about dosing your dog or your specific situation, please consult your veterinarian.
Our Recommendation
We recommend letting your pet acclimate to CBD before you dose them for specific reasons. The reason is that many pets respond differently to CBD. Once you know how your pet handles CBD, feel free to administer CBD as needed.
Limited mobility & pain: Give your pet their dose of CBD throughout the day as needed (about every 4-6 hours). If you and your pet are about to be active, give them a treat 45 minutes before physical activity.
Separation anxiety: Give your pup a CBD Dog Treat(s) 45 minutes before you leave the house. They should begin to acclimate to the effects while you’re still home.
Stress: If you know that your pet will be stressed out by an upcoming event (thunderstorm, fireworks, vet appointment), try giving them a treat 45 minutes beforehand.

FAQ
General Questions:
What is CBD for pets?
CBD (cannabidiol) for pets is a natural compound, called a cannabinoid, that can help support your pet’s overall well-being, manage stress levels, and improve mobility.
What’s the difference between pet CBD and human CBD?
While both CBD products for pets and products for humans contain the same form of CBD, it’s possible that they can be formulated differently.
Often, CBD designed for pet use will be flavored like peanut butter or bacon or blended with salmon oil. Human CBD products made with added artificial ingredients or sweeteners should not be given to your pets.
Are These Treats Full Spectrum?
Yes. We make these CBD Dog Treats with full-spectrum CBD extract.
When we cultivate our hemp, there are over 100 cannabinoids present in the flowers. Each one plays its own part in interacting with the endocannabinoid system present in humans, dogs, and all mammals. For this reason, we don’t remove any of the cannabinoids from the extract that we use to make these dog treats.
How should I store this product to maintain freshness?
Please store your CBD Dog Treats in a cool, dry place. Keep the bag closed when you’re not using it.
Oxygen and UV light can both spoil the MCT carrier oil and degrade the CBD within.
Do veterinarians recommend CBD for pets?
Some vets do recommend CBD to their clients. However, because CBD laws regarding veterinarian prescriptions vary from state to state, not all vets are allowed to discuss or suggest CBD.
With that said, we recommend always consulting your vet before starting your pet on a new supplement.
Effects Questions:
What does CBD do for dogs?
CBD can do a lot to benefit your dog’s overall wellness. Consistent dosing can support your dog’s stress level, anxious behaviors, immune function, sleep quality, and mobility.
Will CBD make my pet get high?
CBD will not make your pet high. CBD is a nonintoxicating cannabinoid. That being said, these CBD Dog Treats are a full-spectrum product and do contain trace amounts of THC— a cannabinoid that, when taken in significant amounts, can make your pet high.
As long as you follow the suggested use directions, your pet will not get high taking this product.
How long until CBD starts to work for my pet?
After administering CBD, your pet should start to feel the effects within 30-60 minutes.
For some benefits, like managing joint pain or improved mobility, it may take a few days of consistent dosing for you to notice any change in your pet.
Will These Treats Help My Dog’s Anxiety?
While the source of your dog’s anxiety can be any number of things, there’s a good chance that these treats could help them with their thunder-related or separation anxiety.

Health Questions:
Is CBD safe for dogs?
Yes, when appropriately dosed and used responsibly, CBD is considered safe to use with dogs.
We always recommend starting at the lowest recommended dose and slowly adjusting the dosage level.
Do CBD Dog Treats Have Side Effects?
Your dog may experience side effects after using CBD. The best way to avoid any of the following side effects is to adhere to the recommended dosing guidelines.
Side effects of CBD can include:
- Dry mouth
- Low blood pressure
- Drowsiness
- Upset stomach
- And more…
How many milligrams (mgs) of CBD should I give my pet?
Dosing depends on your dog’s situation, age, and weight.
We recommend starting your dogs on 1-2mg of CBD per 10 lbs of body weight.
Will CBD interact with my pet’s medications?
CBD can interact with medications and interfere with how your pet metabolizes them. Before you give your pet any CBD, please consult with your veterinarian to talk about potential interactions.
Legal Questions:
Are CBD Dog Treats legal in my state?
Please check your local and state laws for any specific restrictions.
It is legal for us to sell, process, and ship our hemp products from Vermont because they comply with the federal 0.3% delta-9 THC and Vermont’s total THC limits, respectively.
Can I travel with my pet’s CBD?
Depending on the product, you can travel domestically with your pet’s CBD. If you’re flying, make sure that your liquid CBD products are under the 3.7 fluid oz limit.
If you plan on flying with your pet and want to take their CBD treats along, know that they should be fine to bring through security.
Where can I buy pet CBD near me?
You may be able to purchase CBD for your pet at a health food store, dispensary, or CBD-specific store in your area. You can also order CBD for your pets in our online store and have it shipped quickly and discreetly to your door.

Frequently asked CBD Questions
CBD, short for cannabidiol, is a naturally occurring chemical compound produced by mature hemp and cannabis plants. It is one of the 100+ cannabinoids that have, as of now, been identified in Cannabis Sativa plants. Unlike tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the compound responsible for the psychoactive effects of marijuana, CBD is non-intoxicating. This means that consuming CBD does not result in the “high” typically associated with cannabis use.

CBD interacts with our body’s endocannabinoid system— a biological network composed of cannabinoid receptors and signalers— to help the body maintain overall health and homeostasis.
The endocannabinoid system plays a role in many bodily functions including,
- Sleep
- Mood
- Stress
- Metabolism and appetite
- Memory and our ability to retain new information
CBD is known as a phytocannabinoid, phyto- meaning ‘of the plant’ and mimics our body’s endocannabinoids, endo- meaning internal, that our bodies naturally produce. Some believe that consuming phytocannabinoids like CBD can help a user’s endocannabinoid system run more efficiently.
CBD is an abbreviation for cannabidiol (Canna-Bi-Diol.) Emphasis ours.
CBD by itself does not show up on a standard workplace drug test. That’s not to say that CBD products won’t show up on a drug test. For more on this subject, check out our blog post on the subject.
CBD is well tolerated by most, but using CBD can cause some unwanted side effects. Some of the most common include:
- Change in appetite
- Diarrhea
- Nausea
- Dizziness
- Upset Stomach
CBD isn’t shown to have any dependence issues, meaning that you will not get addicted to CBD if you begin to use it. The World Health Organization has stated that “…in humans, CBD exhibits no effects indicative of any abuse or dependence potential…”
CBD is non-psychoactive and will not make users feel intoxicated. In other words, CBD will not get you “high.”
