How To Use
When you receive your package, please open it to check for damage. If there is an issue with your bottle, or it appears damaged, opened, or defective, please contact us using the information on your packing slip.
Using your softgels
If you’re new to CBD, we recommend starting with one softgel at a time, daily. Swallow with water or another cool beverage of your choosing.
Each softgel contains 25mg of CBD and 1mg of THC. Stick with this dose for at least two weeks and notice how you feel mentally, physically, and emotionally. After this two-week acclimation period, please adjust your dosage as needed.
You should begin to feel the effects of your softgel between 30 minutes and two hours later. Onset time will depend on a few factors, like the last time you ate, body size, and acclimation to CBD.
We do not recommend taking more softgels while you wait for your softgel to take effect. Stacking doses of full-spectrum CBD and THC may lead to unwanted side effects.
If you have any questions about dosages, expected effects, or full-spectrum CBD ingestibles, please contact us.
Warning: Consuming this full-spectrum product in any amount can result in a failed drug test. User discretion is advised. Please do not operate heavy machinery or drive after consuming this product.
Our Recommendation
Take your softgel with a snack or a meal. Taking this product on an empty stomach can lead to mild discomfort.
For the best results, we suggest taking your CBD Softgels consistently. Try to take your dose at least once per day, around the same time of day. Once you’re acclimated to your dose, you can start dosing yourself for specific occasions.
With your morning vitamins – These Full Spectrum CBD Softgels look like vitamins. Add them to your morning regimen and start to feel the benefits after an hour or so.
Before your workout – Enter your flow state more easily with a little nudge of CBD. A small dose of CBD can help you better focus without feeling overly tired.
Before a work meeting – Do you have a stressful meeting coming up? Keep your cool with a bit of help from CBD. 25mg is a small enough dose to relax without sacrificing your edge.
Relaxing at home – Take a softgel as soon as you get home. It should help you unwind and quiet those racing thoughts about work.

FAQs
General Questions:
How do you take CBD Softgels?
You take CBD Softgels by swallowing them whole. We recommend swallowing them with a gulp of water or another cool beverage of your choice.
Can I cut CBD Softgels in half?
We do not recommend cutting your CBD Softgels in half. They are designed to be swallowed whole. If you are looking for a smaller dose of CBD, we would recommend purchasing our 750mg Full Spectrum CBD Oil or one of our several CBD Gummies.
Do CBD Softgels expire?
CBD Softgels do expire. However, if you store your bottle in a cool, dark, dry place, they will remain shelf stable for up to 18 months after purchase.
The biggest concerns for keeping your CBD Softgels fresh are exposure to UV light and moisture. UV light can degrade CBD and spoil the MCT oil in your capsule. Excess moisture can cause your softgels to stick together.
Do they contain THC?
Sunset Lake’s CBD Softgels do contain trace amounts of THC. We’ve opted to use a full-spectrum formula, meaning that each softgel contains roughly 1mg of hemp-derived THC.
Can I give them to my pet?
You can give your pet a CBD Softgel, though we don’t recommend it. To more accurately dose your animal, we recommend checking out our 600mg Full Spectrum Pet CBD Oil. 25mg is a large dose for most animals, so please exercise caution.
Effects Questions:
Are CBD Softgels effective?
CBD Softgels are an effective and convenient way to integrate CBD into your daily routine. You may not notice your dose right away. That’s because your body digests these softgels the same way that it does CBD edibles. You may not notice any effects for upwards of an hour, but those effects will last upwards of eight hours.
How long does a CBD Softgel take to work?
It may take your CBD Softgel between 30 minutes and 120 minutes to work. Because the CBD inside must reach your digestive system before it enters your bloodstream, there are a few factors at play.
- If you’ve eaten recently, it could take your softgel longer to work
- If you have a naturally slower metabolism, it may take longer for your softgel to work
- If you have a high CBD tolerance, it may take your softgel longer to work
How long do the effects last?
When you swallow a CBD softgel, you should expect the onset of effects to occur in the first two hours after consumption. The effects of edible full-spectrum CBD may last upwards of eight hours. This is not a hard and fast rule, as it depends on dosage, metabolism, and other factors.
Will these softgels get me high?
We infuse our Full Spectrum CBD Softgels with full-spectrum CBD distillate, which means that they do contain a small amount of THC. If you ingest enough of these softgels, you can consume enough THC to feel intoxicated.
Health Questions:
Are there health risks associated with these softgels?
While CBD is generally considered a safe and natural product for humans, it can give users some unwanted side effects. They include:
- Nausea
- Appetite changes
- Dry mouth
- Dizziness
- And more…
If you experience any of the above side effects, you may want to consider lowering your CBD dose or stop dosing altogether.
Will this product interact with my medications?
CBD can interact with certain medications. If you are taking any prescriptions, especially those with a grapefruit warning, please consult a healthcare professional— either your doctor or pharmacist— before you consume CBD products.
Can I mix this product with other substances?
You can consume CBD products with other substances safely. Many users mix THC-heavy cannabis products with CBD hemp products, often without incident.
We don’t recommend using any CBD/hemp products in conjunction with alcohol, as this can increase the risk of side effects like drowsiness and impaired coordination.
If you plan on using CBD in conjunction with other herbs and/or naturopathic remedies, please consult a naturopathic doctor or herbalist for safety instructions.
Legal Questions:
Will these softgels trigger a positive drug test?
Consuming edible THC in any amount may cause you to fail a basic workplace drug test. Our Full Spectrum CBD Softgels contain 1mg of hemp-derived THC.
If you are subject to drug tests for whatever reason, do not consume this product. Instead, please ask us about our THC-free options.
Is this product legal in my state?
Please check your local and state laws for any specific restrictions.
It is legal for us to sell, process, and ship our CBD products from Vermont because they comply with the federal 0.3% delta-9 THC and Vermont’s total THC limits, respectively.
Can I fly with these softgels?
You can travel with this product domestically within the U.S. We recommend keeping the original packaging and the test results (certificates of analysis sent with every order) in case of any questions from authorities.
Please be aware that this product may not be compliant with state laws and may not be legal to possess. Do some research about your local or state laws before traveling with this product.
If you’re traveling internationally, you will want to check your destination country’s hemp and cannabis laws.

Frequently asked CBD Questions
CBD, short for cannabidiol, is a naturally occurring chemical compound produced by mature hemp and cannabis plants. It is one of the 100+ cannabinoids that have, as of now, been identified in Cannabis Sativa plants. Unlike tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the compound responsible for the psychoactive effects of marijuana, CBD is non-intoxicating. This means that consuming CBD does not result in the “high” typically associated with cannabis use.

CBD interacts with our body’s endocannabinoid system— a biological network composed of cannabinoid receptors and signalers— to help the body maintain overall health and homeostasis.
The endocannabinoid system plays a role in many bodily functions including,
- Sleep
- Mood
- Stress
- Metabolism and appetite
- Memory and our ability to retain new information
CBD is known as a phytocannabinoid, phyto- meaning ‘of the plant’ and mimics our body’s endocannabinoids, endo- meaning internal, that our bodies naturally produce. Some believe that consuming phytocannabinoids like CBD can help a user’s endocannabinoid system run more efficiently.
CBD is an abbreviation for cannabidiol (Canna-Bi-Diol.) Emphasis ours.
CBD by itself does not show up on a standard workplace drug test. That’s not to say that CBD products won’t show up on a drug test. For more on this subject, check out our blog post on the subject.
CBD is well tolerated by most, but using CBD can cause some unwanted side effects. Some of the most common include:
- Change in appetite
- Diarrhea
- Nausea
- Dizziness
- Upset Stomach
CBD isn’t shown to have any dependence issues, meaning that you will not get addicted to CBD if you begin to use it. The World Health Organization has stated that “…in humans, CBD exhibits no effects indicative of any abuse or dependence potential…”
CBD is non-psychoactive and will not make users feel intoxicated. In other words, CBD will not get you “high.”
