What Is CBD?
CBD, short for cannabidiol, is one of the 100+ cannabinoids produced by flowering hemp plants. CBD is a different cannabinoid than THC, the cannabinoid responsible for “marijuana’s” psychoactive effects. When you take CBD, you won’t feel “high” or intoxicated, but you may feel more relaxed, socially recharged, less sore, or ready for bed. Read our comprehensive guide to CBD using the button below!
How do you take CBD?
There are many ways to use CBD, including eating infused edible products, topical rubs, smokables, and oil-based tinctures. Each is a little different from the rest and offer their own benefits. Learn more about how to use CBD Oil Tinctures below!

Frequently Asked CBD Questions
CBD interacts with the body’s endocannabinoid system—a biological network composed of cannabinoid receptors and signalers—to help the body maintain overall health and homeostasis.
The endocannabinoid system plays a role in many bodily functions, including
- Sleep
- Mood
- Stress
- Metabolism and appetite
- Memory and our ability to retain new information
- Inflammation response
CBD is known as a phytocannabinoid, phyto- meaning ‘of the plant’ and mimics our body’s endocannabinoids, endo- meaning internal, that our bodies naturally produce. Some believe that consuming phytocannabinoids like CBD can help a user’s endocannabinoid system run more efficiently.
Unlike some all-natural homeopathic remedies, you will feel CBD when it kicks in, especially if you opt for a full-spectrum product. How fast the effects kick in, and your experience will depend on your ingestion method.
Smokable and topical CBD have the fastest onset times but offer limited benefits. Oil tinctures, edibles, and beverages have varying onset times but will offer a more complete full-body experience.
Overall, the effects you should feel are calm, relaxed, and looser both physically and socially. CBD will make you want to go to bed if you’re already tired.
CBD is well tolerated by most people and generally considered safe to use. But, as with any supplement, you may experience some unwanted side effects. Some of the most common side effects include:
- Change in appetite
- Diarrhea
- Nausea
- Dizziness
- Upset Stomach
CBD is also safe in the sense that it isn’t addictive and won’t create any dependence in users. The World Health Organization stated that in its pure state “cannabidiol does not appear to have abuse potential or cause harm.”
CBD, by itself, is non-psychoactive and will not make you feel intoxicated. In other words, CBD will not get you “high.”
However, if you are sensitive to THC, you may want to steer clear of CBD products described as “full-spectrum.” These products will contain trace amounts of THC, which, when consumed in any amount, can make you feel intoxicated. If this sounds like you, look for products made with CBD isolate or described as made with “pure CBD.”

CBD, the cannabinoid, will not show up on a standard workplace drug test. That’s not to say that using a CBD product can’t trigger a positive drug test. Products described or labeled as “full-spectrum” will contain trace amounts of THC that can cause you to fail a drug test. For more information on this subject, please see our blogs about CBD and THC drug testing here.
