How Sunset Lake CBD is different

We built our farm on three core tenets:

Integrity – We’re farmers. We take pride in everything we grow and don’t cut any corners.

Affordability – We don’t use middlemen. We don’t think someone should upcharge you for our products.

Trust – Our CBD comes straight from our farm. We ship all of our handcrafted products (and their test results) directly to your door.

From our Satisfied Customers

I wouldn’t have thought it possible to improve on the original Sunset Lake sleep gummies, but this new formula knocks it out of the park. Last month my partner — who previously discounted the whole CBD industry as junk science — was having a tough week at work and it was keeping him up at night. The usual melatonin supplements weren’t helping, so I talked him into trying a Sunset Lake gummy and he slept like a baby. Another satisfied customer! (He’s used up half my jar, he’s definitely buying the next round, lol) Thank you, Sunset Lake #LeftIsBest

I use the 3,000mg Full Spectrum CBD oil tincture at night as a sleep aid. With a full range of aches and pains from a lifetime of physical work, there are nights when I just can’t get comfortable enough to fall sleep. I spend hours tossing and turning trying to find that perfect position. Taking the tincture about 30 minutes before I head to bed allows my muscles to start relaxing. By the time I hit the bed, I’m ready to fall asleep.

I recently moved away from nicotine and THC, and having some CBD from a producer that I trust has been critical. I’m a troubled sleeper so the Night time CBD gummies are great, and I use the Day time gummies anytime I feel the day getting a little away from me.

My dog, a sweet Pitty, really loves these. She tends to be an anxious girl around thunder storms, fireworks etc. She also does a lot of licking due to food allergies that she is being treated for by our Veterinarian. My daughter , who works at Gram Central here in Montpelier turned us on to these. I just tried to pick up more from there but they didn’t have any in stock. Would love it if they could continue to carry your products! For now I will order here and get them shipped to us. Thanks for carrying a clean product that seems to offer our girl, Harper, some much needed relief.

I cut them in half to get a microdose of the THC and take it with a Sunset Lake Sleep Gummie. This is a great combo for me.

These Gummies do the job that no others have done in the past. I can actually get some sleep, even with my Neuropathy pain at night.

Frequently Asked CBD Questions

We grow our hemp plants outside in living soil, as nature intended! Thanks to our diligent farm manager and the direction of UVM’s extension school, we also employ many sustainable farming techniques.

Integrated Pest Management (IPM) – Instead of using pesticides to protect our hemp plants from bugs that harm our crop, we use predatory bugs like Assassin bugs and Ladybugs to eliminate harmful pests. Essentially, we’re using good bugs to keep bad bug populations under control and keep our hemp crop 100% pesticide-free.

Cover Cropping & Rotation – To protect the health of our soil and the microbes inside, we cover crops between the rows in our hemp field. We generally use red clover between our rows to help keep the weeds under control. We also rotate our hemp crops onto different parts of our farm each year so our fields can regenerate.

Organic Fertilizer – We use organic fertilizer from our sister dairy farm to make our seedlings happy and healthy. It may not smell great on the day of spraying, but the plants love the nitrogen, phosphorous, and potassium supplied by our cows.

We extract CBD from our hemp biomass and less aesthetically pleasing hemp flower using a cold ethanol bath. At lower temperatures, ethanol gently pulls CBD, other cannabinoids, and terpenes away from the plant material. We then evaporate the ethanol, leaving us with a molasses-like concentrate.

Once we have our concentrate, we winterize it, turning the CBDa into activated CBD. The final result is something called “crude” by people in the hemp and cannabis industry. Another term you may hear for this concentrate is “cured resin.”

We purchase our hemp genetics from two different suppliers.

  1. Oregon CBD Seeds – We find that Oregon produces some of the most consistent, resilient hemp genetics out there. Generally speaking, Oregon’s climate is similar to Northern Vermont’s, and we know what to expect regarding harvest schedules and yields.
  2. Colorado CBD Seeds – We’ve also purchased genetics from Colorado CBD Seeds. These plants mature a bit later than Oregon’s, allowing us to stagger our harvest. Plus, these folks developed one of our favorite strains: Cherry Abacus.

If you have a favorite CBD hemp flower cultivar and want us to try it, we’re all ears, but we can’t make any promises.

If you’re subject to workplace drug tests, please exercise caution using any of our full-spectrum CBD products. Full-spectrum CBD, by definition, contains trace amounts of THC, which can show up on your workplace screening.

If you’re looking for Sunset Lake CBD products that contain no THC at all, please filter our products using the THC-Free tag.

Due to a licensing issue in 2023, we could not grow any hemp flower last year. We’ve figured out our USDA license and plan to release five cultivars this coming year.

Thanks so much for your patience and we look forward to being your one-stop-shop for all things hemp and CBD very soon!
